About New Zealand

New Zealand consists of two main islands, North Island and South Island, as well as a series of small islands around. For example, Stewart Island and Waiheke Island are among the most popular.

North Island is famous for its beautiful beaches, snow-covered volcanoes, Wellington City and small islands close enough for you to enjoy a day trip there.

South Island is famous for fjords, mountains, and glaciers, wildlife, Christchurch city and Queenstown.

When is the best time to visit New Zealand

Compared to North America and Europe, the reverse seasons are there. So let me explain it this way:

Summer (December to February) - temperature ~ 25 C (77 F), but it is a very busy time due to holidays

Fall (March to May) - beautiful autumn, few tourists but may be cold

Winter (June to August) - the days are short and quite cold (about 10C or 50F), but hey, it's skiing time!

Spring (September to November) - fewer tourists, you may get some great weather, but you may also be unlucky.

The best months to come to New Zealand are considered January and February. I honestly thought it would be great to visit in November because it was warm, but still not too crowded.

How long should you stay in New Zealand

If you're from a far away place, that's the case for most people (unless you're from Australia), I recommend staying at least two weeks.

Three weeks is even better - that's how much time I've explored the country, and I feel like it's right. I divided my time into one week for North Island and two weeks for South Island. This seems to be a popular choice for tourists.

However, if you have more time, there is a lot of work to do on both islands. So, in total, if you have time, your vacation can easily be 4 or even five weeks. You won't run out of things to do and visit, so don't worry!

What do you need to bring with you to New Zealand

Do you need a visa to visit New Zealand

A tourist visa is activated automatically when entering New Zealand for most countries. This usually allows visitors to stay up to three months. Other popular visa options to stay in New Zealand are longer holiday visas and student visas.

New Zealand currency is New Zealand Dollar (New Zealand). There are many ATMs in towns and cities where you can withdraw cash. Credit cards will also be accepted in most places, however, there is a small fee for each credit card transaction. If you stay in New Zealand for a few months, you will save a lot of money by opening a New Zealand bank account.

How to budget your trip to New Zealand

Be honest here, New Zealand is not one of the cheapest countries in the world and you should carefully estimate your budget before going so as not to be surprised when traveling between trips.

Remember, if you will just stay in your tent and cook your own food, the price will be significantly lower than you would eat at a restaurant, stay in a hotel and take helicopter trips.
